Rub a Dub Dub, Some Fun in the Tub

Looking for a way to make bath time more fun? Why don’t you try out some homemade bath paints! Kids have a blast and they are super easy to make with ingredients that you have lying around your house.

First gather up some baby wash, hand soap, or some shampoo.  Make sure that is is not colored.  Place 1/2 cup of the soap in a bowl.

Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to the soap.

Mix well.

Pour into an ice cube tray.  The mixture will make six different paints.

Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to each section.

Mix the food coloring in well.  I used a toothpick to stir mine up.  Now you’re ready for some painting fun!

Here is Gabby’s drawing in its beginning stages.

Then later, Aron drew a mass of color.  He loved experimenting to see what colors he could make by mixing the paints.

Easy peasy and loads of fun. It will all rinse off with water, so clean up is simple!

  1. have you tried this on paper? I don’t have any little ones of my own, but do teacher 4 year olds. Looks like a fun way to fingerpaint, we obviously cannot do it in the tub!

can we store these, if so, how?

    • Hmm. Well, my kids always use every drop so I’ve never personally tried to store them, but I imagine you could in an airtight plastic container.

Wouldnt the food coloring cause it to stain?

    • No, it won’t stain. If you got the food coloring ALONE before it was mixed on your tub, that might stain, but once it’s mixed with everything else it should be fine. I use this all the time and have never had a staining issue. It all just rinses away. 🙂
