We started our apple study last week and while pondering what sort of crafts and activities I could add in for fun, I remembered that I hadn’t made homemade playdough in quite some time. I decided to make some scented playdough to go along with our unit.
This is a really simple recipe and you only need to add a few extra ingredients to the basic recipe. Remember, this is a recipe WITHOUT cream of tartar because I know that many people don’t always have that particular ingredient lying around. This is a 100% nontoxic playdough recipe, so no worried if your toddler decides to try and taste it!
Just gather up:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 teaspoons white vinegar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
food coloring(either green or blue and yellow mixed together)
Mix all the ingredients together in a sauce pan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until it starts to clump together (see the original post on how to make this for step by step pictures).
Note: the dough will still be slightly sticky when it is time to take it out of the pan.
Remove from the heat and knead it all together until it is well incorporated.
Allow it to cool and get to playing!
Simple and fun!
