Packing Peanut Sculptures {Guest Post}

I remember the first time I came across the packing peanuts that dissolve in water. It was while working as a kennel assistant in college. I took out some trash only to spill an entire box of packing peanuts! I went to get a broom only to have another employee tell me to get the hose! I was surprised and so lucky they were the ones that dissolved, saved me so much time! Ever since then I have loved playing with them, and every time we get a package with peanuts in it I test them to see if they dissolve. Finally this past month we got some! I was so excited that I could finally show the girls how they could make sculptures with them!

So what you need are dissolving packing peanuts and a little dish of water. I decided to make it even more fun by giving them three little dishes of colored water.

All you have to do is stick a section of the packing peanut in the water and then stick it to another peanut. Don’t use too much water or it turns to mush!

The girls quickly found that you can also add different colors to the ends and smash them together to mix the colors.

They played until we ran out of peanuts then to clean up we got out the hose. They had fun mushing them up in the water too. I was actually a little worried that dissolving their sculptures would upset them, but they thought it was awesome!

So this was quick and fairly clean fun (at least clean up is easy other then changing the wet kids), for super cheap price (if you just happen upon these little packing peanuts in the mail). I am sure you can purchase them if you want to try it out and not take your chances with getting some in the mail!

A classic strong-willed child, Ashley, fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian in 2005; only to realize a new dream had formed, having a family with her husband (another strong-willed child). After much heartache, they were blessed with two daughters and a son, who are all proving to be just as spirited as their parents! Though she is still working part-time, she fills her days off with fun activities and lots of learning with her three kids. And this is where the blog comes in. Life with Moore Babies is where she documents the activities they do and the places they go in hopes that someone might be inspired to do some “fun learning” with their kids.You can find Ashley on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Google +.

  2. We just got some in the mail the other day, although I don’t know if they dissolve in water or not. Now I’m going to have to go find out 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  4. That is a fun idea. I like your story about how you were first introduced to the packing peanuts that dissolve in water. Thank you for sharing on Artsy Play Wednesday.

  7. My mom gave us a pack of dissolving peanuts from a craft store when the kids were young. I never thought to check if the ones from the mail dissolve. What a great idea.
