L is for Lilac Scented Playdough

It’s time for the letter L in the ABCs of Scented Playdough series!

This week we decided on lilac scented playdough!

I went back to the tried and true basic playdough recipe for this one.  It’s the texture that we enjoy the best.

To make this recipe, gather up:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • purple food coloring
  • 5-6 drops of lilac scented warming oil

Mix together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium saucepan.  Place approximately 10 drops of food coloring in the water, then pour it into the saucepan.  Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Once the dough starts to form, add the warming oil.  Continue to stir until it gets to the correct consistency.   Remove from heat and knead gently.

Allow to cook and then play!

*Important Note: This playdough is NOT edible.  Do not allow your child to put it in their mouth.  Also, do not use more than a few drops of the oil.  It is highly fragranced, so you only need a little.  Wash your children’s hands after play.

The 10 Days of Homeschool Giving event begins next week, so the ABCs of Playdough series will not return until February 7th.  See you then for the letter M!

  1. I love lilac – it’s one of my favourite scents.

    Wishing you a lovely weekend.
