A Day in the Life of a Homeschooling Mom of Four

Have you ever wished you could get a glimpse into someone else’s life to see how they managed their day?

I have definitely wanted to take a peek inside other mother’s homes to see if I could learn anything from their routines.  Sometimes, it’s just fun to see how someone else does things.

Today I’m participating in the “Day in the Life…” blog hop at Simply Rebekah where several people are sharing picture snapshots of one day in their lives.

Before you look at my own day in pictures, be forewarned that I live a rather ordinary life. The day I chose to document was January 31st.  Why?  It was my birthday!

Without further ado, here is a day in the life of this homeschooling mom of four:

7:04 AM: Wake up time!  My youngest woke up quite chipper.  We discovered that my three year old had joined us in the night at some time.  He wasn’t exactly sure what to make of the camera flash that I thrust upon him in the middle of his morning grogginess.

8:04 AM: My oldest daughter (age 7) decided that she would give me one of her Barbies as my birthday gift.  She said that it reminded her of me because it has brown skin and curly hair.  I’m hoping that the frizzy state of the hair is no reflection of how she views my own hairstyle.

9:04 AM: My husband gave me these gorgeous flowers for my birthday.  Aren’t they beautiful?

10:04 AM: Birthday, schmirthday.  Schoolwork still has to be completed!  My two oldest are spread out (still clad in jammies) and working on their lessons.

11:04 AM: My three year old and I were cuddling up on the couch together while the older two continued to work.  She had a slight fever and wasn’t feeling great, but she always has time for a silly face!

12:04 PM: I had a small helper when it came to instructing my oldest during her grammar lesson.

1:04 PM: Nursies and nap time for the wee one!  Love these precious cuddling moments. They are so fleeting.

2:04 PM: My husband has been sick all week so he didn’t bake me a cake like he usually does (Are you swooning ladies?  My husband BAKES.  *cough*from a box mix*cough*) so he went out and nabbed me a GIANT COOKIE.  Mmmmm….

3:04 PM: Ah, laundry. The never ending chore.  It’s the day for washing sheets and blankets!

4:04 PM: Working on some blog posts.  We love to read.

5:04 PM: Time for another nap for my little guy.  I love sleeping babies.  I just want to stare at him for hours.

6:04 PM: Sweeping up the kitchen after dinner.  I feel like I spend 3/4 of my day sweeping.  How do children produce so many crumbs????

7:04 PM: It appears that the sick bug that had bitten my husband and my three year old hit my seven year old too.  After complaining of a headache, she fell asleep on the couch while I was giving the youngest two children a bath.  Poor sweet girl…

8:04 PM: Story time before bed.  We finished reading Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling.

9:04 PM: Kicking back in the quiet and checking out social media.

10:04 PM: Mama needs a shower!

11:04 PM: Vegging out and watching the news while waiting for my husband to come home from work.

12:04 AM: He’s home!  Love this fella!

1:04 AM: My three year old woke up and needed some Mama attention.  She wasn’t feeling well at all and needed a potty break and a drink for her sore throat.  I got her settled down and then went to bed myself!  It’ll all start over again in a few hours!

It was a rather uneventful birthday.  With illness and work schedules, we didn’t really do anything out of the way, but I’m not into big frills and excitement anyhow.  I turned 31 in the quiet of my own home, surrounded by the people who fill my heart with joy.  Sounds like a great birthday to me.

  1. How fun that your day in the life just happened to be your birthday! Your baby is beyond precious. And, the crumbs in my house (just with 2 littles) amazes me!

  2. It sounds like you had the perfect birthday, apart from the sick family of course! Yes, laundry and crumbs stop for no Mom! I hope everyone is feeling well again soon 😉
