Homemade Non-Toxic Cleaners

Homemade Non-Toxic Cleaners

There are a lot of great reasons why should make your own household cleaners. One of my favorites is it allows me to get our kids involved in the daily cleaning and with the holidays around the corner, I can use all the help I can get.  I have also read a ton of literature on the dangers of common store bought cleaners. The list of hazards from using these cleaners can encompass everything from breathing in toxic fumes, skin, lung & eye irritations to chemical burns. These cleaners can also be expensive and non-toxic cleaners are usually priced way out of our family’s budget. So after some trial and error; I have compiled a list of some of my favorite homemade non-toxic cleaners.

A List of What You Will Need:

  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Washing Soda (found in the laundry aisle)
  • Borax (also in the laundry section)
  • Liquid Castile Soap
  • Essential Oils: Lavender, Grapefruit, Lemon & Orange
  • 16 oz Empty Spray Bottle
  • An Old Liquid Detergent Bottle 50oz

Liquid Laundry Soap

2 cups Borax

15 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Add 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil

There is not much measuring to do here. Just place a small amount of baking soda in a bowl adding liquid Castile soap until it forms a smooth paste. You can add a few drops of your preferred essential oil too. Great for tubs, sinks, sneakers etc.

Window Cleaner

Use equal parts vinegar and water

1 tsp of Castille Soap

Place above items into your 16 oz spray bottle

Make sure to shake bottle to distribute soap evenly

Wood Floor and Cabinet Cleaner

Shake well before using

Tile Floor Cleaner

2 cups of vinegar

1 gallon of hot water

the juice of one lemon

Combine in mop bucket

Use a different bucket for rinsing again use hot water
