I love a good board game. They are just a fun way to spend time with friends and family and there are so many varieties to choose from that you can most certainly find one for everyone! My husband and I recently had the opportunity to review one that is an interactive DVD game based on the proverbs on the Bible’s wisest man, King Solomon. Wisdomantics is for two to four players, ages 12 and up, and it is based on the NKJV version of the Bible.
I’ve never played a game that required you to use a DVD alongside the board before so I was excited to test this one out. I’ll admit that the first couple of times that I read through the instructions I was a bit overwhelmed. There is a lot of information to take in and it can be a tad confusing, but once we inserted the DVD and viewed the rules on the screen, things became a bit more clear. Wisdomantics has since put out an updated rule sheet that is easier to decipher.
Once you have a grasp on how to play, the game is fairly easy to set up. You have the game board, 2 DVDs that contain 400 questions, 4 game pieces, Blessings Cards, Advancement cards, a Question card, and cards where you will build your temple in order to win the game.
The goal of the game is to collect all the required tiles (Cypress, Cedar, and Gold) that are needed to construct Solomon’s temple on your game card. The spaces on the board have corresponding colors to the tiles and also feature pictures representative of Solomon’s rule. As you make your way around the board, you will gather tiles based on the spaces you land on. There are also spaces like “Praise Report” and “Detention Chambers.” There is even a space that allows you to submit prayer requests!
The DVDs display questions that are fill in the blank style verses. You are given multiple choices and you use your DVD remote to select an answer. Once you have chosen you will be told that you were correct by a King Solomon animation shouting, “Hallelujah!” or you will be told you are incorrect and the next player will be given the opportunity to answer the question.
All in all, I think this is a fun game for the family to play. It will sharpen your knowledge of Solomon’s proverbs and provide some fun, wholesome family entertainment.
